Interact Archive

The Interact Archive is a work-in-progress based around Sean Clark's collection of multimedia materials dating from the early 1990s to the present day. It contains digital assets, such as websites (starting with his first website in 1993), photographs and videos (which are fairly well-sorted and listed here) as well as books, magazines, prints and other artworks, CD-ROMs, VHSs, DVDs and objects (which are not yet very well catalogued).

The focus of the archive is broadly digital art, 1990s cyberculture and early internet/web in the UK. It also specifically documents Sean Clark's work, digital arts and digital making in Leicester and Leicester music scene in the 2000s. Not yet catalogued at all is a collection of Punk art, and assorted artefacts from the early eras of computing. Recent 'Locative Media' projects in Leicester are also being prepared to addition to the archive in the future.

The archive started to started to take shape in the late 2000s when it was realised that, firstly, despite what people often think, things on the Internet don't last for ever and it takes effort to maintain a coherent collection of websites and digital materials. And secondly, that all of the CD-ROMs, VHSs and things sitting in Sean's studio might one day have some historical value and be of interest to other people.
